Discover the beaches of Abruzzo

Silvi is a coastal town with an old village on a hill and the coast-town at its feet. It has a sandy beach with shallow water, suitable for families. The Marine Protected Area Torre del Cerrano starts here and reaches Pineto.

13km south, there Pescara with its clubs, bar, restaurants that keep open all night long. Going a further south, the Costa dei Trabocchi worths a visit. Trabocchi were fish machineries, now become wooden seafood restaurants above the waves. It takes less than one our to reach the Costa dei Trabocchi from Silvi by Car.

The region of Italy covered for 1/3rd natural reserves

A third of Abruzzo is covered by natural reserves and parks: you should visit this places in Italy. As we told, Silvi and Pineto have the Marine Protected Area Torre del Cerrano. The town of Atri, next to Silvi, hosts the suggestive WWF Oasi of the Badlands. The national parks are very famous: they’re 3 and cover a great part of Abruzzo’s mountains. You can easily reach many natural reserves from Silvi with a short trip by car.

Churches and abbeys to discover in this region of central Italy

Among the places to discover in Italy in Abruzzo, there are a lot of churches and places.

In Silvi Alta you can visit the church of the Holy Saviour, built in the XII century and now preserving the relic of St. Leone. He’s the Holy protector of the town and in his honor, at the end of May, the old village hosts the festival of the Ciancialone.

Some other places you shouldn’t miss:

  • the Cathedral of Atri, next to Silvi, built on roman ruins, is a middle age architecture example with still visible frescoes;
  • the church of St. Francis in Lanciano that preserves the Eucharistic Miracle;
  • the Volto Santo’s Basil (Volto Santo means Holy Face) where you can admire a veil on which is supposed to be impressed the face of Jesus Christ during its Resurrection;
  • the church of St Thomas in Ortona, that traditionally preserves the human rests of the Apostle.

The church of St. Maria Arabona in Manoppello and St. Giovanni in Venere in Fossacesia (Chieti) have a great artistic value, such as many other churches and abbeys of Abruzzo. You can travel to these places from Silvi having a day out to focus on your soul and pray.

The culture of this place to discover in Italy

For those who love cultural tourism, Abruzzo could be one of the hidden places to visit in Italy. We’ve already talked about Atri, the village of Art next to Silvi. This Art Town also saves many architectures, from the roman age till today and is rich in museums. 

Castelli instead is very known because of its porcelain tradition: the Castelli’s porcelains are hold in many museums all around Italy and Europe. 

Don’t miss Sulmona! The town is known for being the home of Confetti, but it’s also called Siena of Abruzzo. The roman poet Ovidio was born there.

In the very nearby of Silvi, Pescara has some cultural surprise: the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio was born here and you can visit his native home. It’s placed next to the ethnographic museum of “Genti d’Abruzzo”. From Silvi, you’ll reach them in about 10minuts by train.

The region of Abruzzo has a long history: some place to visit

Spending one day out from Silvi Alta, you’ll be able to reach many historical places. 

Visit the famous castles of Roccascalegna (Chieti) and Rocca Calascio (L’Aquila), or the astonishing Civitella del Tronto (Teramo) Borbone fort. These castles are so fine, and we recomend to add them to your list of the places to visit in Italy!

If you like italian villages, you won’t miss the mountain villages. Some of them: Scanno (L’Aquila), Barrea (L’Aquila), Guardiagrele (Chieti). We have many coastal villages too: the Old Village of Silvi is one. Other examples are Mutignano, Città Sant’Angelo, Montepagano etc. Abruzzo has hermitages too: we suggest you to see the St Bartolomeo and St. Spirit ones, in Roccamorice (Pescara).

Silvi is in a very central position on the Abruzzo’s coast and it is an ideal point to start many day trips out to discover all the places to see in Abruzzo. 

So, we suggest you to book your stay here and then move everyday to discover a new place. Here you’ll be also able to spend your relaxing time on the shore.

Well: this choice fits you if you have a car, but also if you’re in Abruzzo to have a bike tourism experience. In the nearby of Silvi there are many places to discover too and you can reach them by bike or by public transport: Atri, Pescara, l’Area Marina Protetta Torre del Cerrano, Pineto, Chieti, Roseto degli Abruzzi.
